Mira Nair

She was born on 15 October 1957, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, India. She studied at the University of New Delhi, and graduated from Harvard majoring in Sociology in 1976. She lived in New York and started making her own indecent short film. Her short film India Cabaret won the Best Documentary prize at the American film festival. Her later film Salaam Bombay! (1988) was her first feature film. It was about kids on the street of Bombay. This film won many award including the Best Foreign Film by the Academy and the Camera d’Or at Cannes. She then changed to make a romantic drama Mississippi Masala in 1991. It was about an Indian family immigrate to America. She kept making films that related to her Indian culture background. She won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and she was established as an accomplished filmmaker. She still continue making films and some television drama until now.
