Preston Sturges

He was born on 29 August 1898, Chicago, Illinois, USA . His family was wealthy. His mother own a stage production company. He served in the U.S army during World War I. After the war, he went home and invented a Kissproof lipstick in 1920. After his marriage, his mother called him back to help out her business. He was kicked out from his house. He started invented many products like a Tickertape machine, an intaglio photo-etching process, an automobile and even an airplane. However, his inventions were not commercially successful.

After the failure, he began writing. He wrote his first play, The Guinea Pig. However, it didn’t work due to the financial problem. In 1932, he moved to Hollywood to find work. He wanted to direct the script he wrote. The Paramount gave him a chance as a deal for selling his script for a cheap price. His first film

The Great McGinty (1940) was successful and gave him an opportunity to direct more films. He later became an independent filmmaker. However, due to his perfectionist and over budget works, he moved to France and make his last film Les carnets du Major Thompson (1955).
