He was born on 7 September 1909, Constantinople, Ottoman Empire, Turkey, to a greek family. He was famous for his expert in the stage direction. He directed many Broadway plays such as “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”. He directed many films including the film version of A Streetcar Named Desire (1951). He likes to use the method acting technique that develop by Konstantin Stanislavski. His films Gentleman’s Agreement (1947) and On the Waterfront (1954) received two best director Academy Awards. He likes to make film about the Greek immigrants which most of these film were based on his own novels.
