Fritz Lang
He was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1890. He graduated from the College of Technical Sciences of Vienna’s Academy of Graphic Arts. His career path was chosen by his parent and he was unhappy about it. He later run away to Munich and Paris to study art. He spent many years traveling around the world. He returned to Paris to paint in 1913. He served in the Austrian army during World War II. He became a screenwriter, actor and story editor after the war. In 1920, he develop a relationship with an actress and writer Thea von Harbou. She wrote him the scripts for many of his famous films like Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler – Ein Bild der Zeit (1922), Die Nibelungen: Siegfried (1924), Metropolis (1927) and M (1931). A Nazi propaganda minister Josef Goebbels once offered him as the head of the German Cinima Institute but he didn’t accept. He directed a lot of films before the economic decline in the 1950s.
