Jules Dassin

He was born on 18 December 1911, Middletown, Connecticut, USA . He was a Russian-Jewish immigrants. He started his filmmaking career in Hollywood since 1942. He famous early works were mostly crime film such as Brute Force (1947) and The Naked City (1948). His life change after his director friend Edward Dmytryk claimed that he was a communist. This result to his immigrate to France. He continued making films in France and create his masterpiece Du rififi chez les hommes (1955). This film won the Cannes film festival award The Best Director. After this film, he had a chance to continue working in Greece, Turkey and other countries in Europe.

Dassinn created many best crime films such as Du rififi chez les hommes (1955), Topkapi (1964). His films have a lot of influence on the films such as Mission: Impossible (1966, 1996), Entrapment (1999). He also directed the other film genre such as the comedy like Never on Sunday (1960), which was Oscar nominated for the best director.
